Get Ready, Get Set-Based Twilight Book

04 Feb 2009

Just before the dawn of the DVD, Twilight fans can get a dose of life on the set with Robert Pattinson (swoon).

Little, Brown and Company is releasing Twilight: Director's Notebook, by Catherine Hardwicke, on March 17.

The book follows the director's creative process throughout the making of the Pattz and Kristen Stewart blockbuster based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling series. The tome is designed to replicate the notebook she kept on set.

“With this book, I tried to show fans and future directors some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight,” Hardwicke says. “My challenge was to translate Stephenie’s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her works.”

The publishing house promises the inside secrets on casting, location scouting, wardrobe and storyboard sketches, and behind-the-scenes photographs.

The book's launch comes only four days before the March 21 release of the Twilight DVD. The film's sequel, New Moon, is scheduled for a Nov. 20, 2009, theatrical release, although Hardwicke will not be at the helm. Instead, Golden Compass director Chris Weitz will be taking the lead.

Film Interview - Catherine Hardwicke

04 Jan 2009

Note: This is a recent posted article, but based on some of the questions answered by Catherine, the interview was conducted in London prior to Chris Weitz becoming producer for the upcoming sequels. 'Read More' will lead you to the entire article, below is just a snippet of the interview portion.

Like your leading couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, you hadn't read the books until the movie became a possibility - was there any reluctance on your part once you realised there was a somewhat rabid fanbase out there?
From the first moment I read an old script, and then I read the book, I fell in love with the book too. I just dived in, and let myself go. I became one of that rabid fanbase, getting lost in that world. So, from there on, I became excited about seeing this up on the screen. And I wanted all the fans to get to see it too.

Very quickly, like the poor unfortunates in this movie, my mum lives besides a family of Cullens. What's the best way to kill them? You've read all the books, done the research...
You've got to rip their limbs apart, and it's not easy.

'Twilight' Director Talks of Sexual Tension

21 Dec 2008

Note: Interesting article, however take not that it mentions that Rob and Kristen are dating, which we know isn't true! Guess the editor should have double checked some facts...

ROMANCE sizzled on and off the set of teen vamp movie Twilight, the surprise US smash hit which is set to take British cinemas by storm over Christmas.

Hot new British heart-throb Robert Pattinson and co-star Kristen Stewart are said to be dating in real life - and that comes as no surprise to director Catherine Hardwicke.

“From the first moment they met, you could feel the magnetic pull and sexual tension,” she says. “That’s essential to transfer to the screen.”

But for Robert, who overnight has become the target of thousands of screaming, lingerie-throwing girls, something came between him and Kristen in the love scenes - the fact they were both wearing contact lenses to change the colour of their eyes.

He says: “The romantic scenes were pivotal moment in the movie. But so much of it is about eye contact, so it was worrying that we had these masks on.”

Twilight Director Interview (Catherine Hardwicke)

18 Dec 2008

Catherine Hardwicke discusses adapting the teen phenomenon.

UK, December 18, 2008 - Director Catherine Hardwicke cut her teeth on controversial teen flick Thirteen before having minor hits with Lords of Dogtown and The Nativity Story. This week, her biggest feature to date hits screens - an adaptation of the phenomenally successful vampire book Twilight. This is what she had to say.

IGN: Were you daunted about living up to the expectations of the book's obsessive fans?

Catherine Hardwicke: When I read the books and all the stuff that was written on the internet, you could see that there was so much passion. People got so swept away in this romance and I wanted to see if I could bring that crazy, giddy feeling to the screen.

Director Catherine Hardwicke Reveals DVD Details

11 Dec 2008

Before her exit from the series, Hardwicke told MTV News about her giggly commentary, deleted scenes and more.

SANTA MONICA, California - These days, "Twilight" fans are so freaked out that you'd think James the nomad was on to their scent.

Even though their beloved vampire film keeps taking in big bucks at the box office, director Catherine Hardwicke has been yanked off the sequels, and names of potential successors are jumping around faster than Edward Cullen on a deer hunt.

As the future of the franchise hangs in the balance, and the fanbase splinters into various camps, we've set aside some cool news that should hopefully return a smile to the faces of Stephenie Meyer fans. It's part three of what would become Hardwicke's last in-depth interview as the "Twilight" captain. Following on the heels of her discussing record-setting box-office numbers and "New Moon" hopes, we bring you brand-new details about Hardwicke's final "Twilight" effort: the much-anticipated DVD.

"We just did the commentary," Hardwicke grinned when she came to visit our studio right after "Twilight" opened, revealing that she had spent time in an audio booth with stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart that very morning. "We were like, 'Is this the lamest commentary ever?' We were just laughing! I was thinking, 'Should we do something really serious with myself and the stunt guy and special-effects people and show aspiring filmmakers how we did those special effects?' But nope. We did the giggle version. [Rob and Kristen were] remembering the funny stuff that happened and the crazy stuff. They make fun of how they look in the movie."

Twilight Director Not Returning for Sequel

07 Dec 2008

Catherine Hardwicke delivered the biggest opening weekend ever for a female film director-not to mention Robert Pattinson to the screaming fans-but it doesn't look like she'll be getting the chance to top that record with the next Twilight film.

The helmer has parted ways with the series. The story broke today on Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily, and by Sunday night Variety had a statement from the director.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon," said Hardwicke. "Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel- it is a great story."

So it is. Considering all the elements that went into the film- a successful series of novels, an attractive cast and, of course, teen vampirism- does this seem like a decision that might put the series in jeopardy, or is it just par for the course in Hollywood?
