'New Moon' DVD Sales On Track To Surpass 'Twilight'

23 Mar 2010

Summit Entertainment’s strategy to release its much-anticipated New Moon DVD on a Friday night — just as the studio did for the release of Twilight’s DVD — is paying off handsomely. The studio reports that the DVD of The Twilight Saga: New Moon sold 4 million units over the weekend. The take surpasses Twilight’s 2009 DVD release, which sold 3.8 million units its first weekend, and 9.2 million total, making it the top selling DVD title of the year.

Summit added to the fervor by spreading its cast around the country to make surprise stops at various retail outlets. Director Chris Weitz, Nikki Reed and Rosalie Hale showed up in Los Angeles while Peter Facinelli made a stop-off in New York and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg showed up in Seattle. As for Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson? Well, they were nowhere to be found. Between Pattinson and Stewart’s own promotional duties for their other projects (Remember Me and The Runaways) plus the intense media scrutiny they constantly live under, they probably felt it best to skip this event.

EW Exclusive: Twilight, The Graphic Novel

20 Jan 2010

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive feature on the upcoming 'Twilight' Graphic Novel by Young Kim. We have also added the feature photos into the gallery.
I’m delighted to announce, exclusively, that Yen Press will publish Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 on March 16, with a first printing of 350,000 copies. Here’s a first glimpse at the book’s cover, as well as an exclusive peek at one of its panels (for a full ten-page excerpt, and the entire Q&A with Stephenie Meyer, see the issue of EW that goes on sale this Friday).

What strikes me, looking at the book, is how faithfully, and how beautifully, artist Young Kim has translated Meyer’s original vision. Kim, who has a fine arts background—in fact, this is her first foray into graphic novels—didn’t just read the book; she absorbed it. Her Bella is the Bella I had in my mind’s eye the first time I read Twilight; her Edward is the Edward I always imagined. It took me back to reading Twilight pre-movie: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson faded into the background.

Meyer talked to us about all this, and more. Here are a few snippets from our conversation:

The text of your original novel is boiled down so carefully that it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. Were you the one who did that?

I was definitely involved. I didn’t do the original “script” for the book, so to speak. But when I got the dialogue with the images, I did a lot of tinkering. In a couple of places, I asked for missing scenes to be inserted. For example, the conversation in the car that Bella and Edward have after she faints in Biology.

Grab Your Piece of 'New Moon' History: The Cullen House Is Up For Sale

19 Nov 2009

We here at Hollywood Crush don't usually dabble in the real estate market, but that all changed when we heard that the family home of our favorite vampire clan was going on sale. That's right, the Cullen house from "New Moon" is up for grabs.

The three-floor Vancouver residence, which features five bedrooms and four bathrooms, can be yours for only $3.3 million. We say "only" because we think that's a fairly small price to pay to live in a home surrounded by "New Moon" memories.

Just think, for just a little over $3 million, you can walk the same halls and drink water from the same faucet as Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone.

Let the bidding war begin.

"New Moon" Outpacing Ticket Sales for "Twilight" by 4-to-1 at MovieTickets.com

12 Nov 2009

"New Moon" Sellouts Top 1,300, With Thousands of Tickets Still Available

More than a week prior to its Nov. 20 release, "New Moon" has sold more than four times as many tickets as "Twilight" at MovieTickets.com at the same point in the sales cycle.

MovieTickets.com reports more than 1,300 sold out performances for "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" -- including 900 midnight performances -- with a large number of tickets still available.

"The fact that 'New Moon' is outpacing 'Twilight' at a 4-to-1 ratio really speaks to the incredible fan base the film has built in just the past year," said Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager for MovieTickets.com. "That, combined with the increasing number of consumers buying their movie tickets online, could put this film in a position to be one of our top advance ticket sellers of all-time."

"New Moon" also accounts for 74 percent of all ticket sales at MovieTickets.com this week.

Twilight Director Catherine Hardwicke Confirms Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s Romance

12 Nov 2009

After pictures of them almost holding hands at an airport surfaced earlier this week, the furor over Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s possible offscreen romance has been reignited. Catherine Hardwicke, the director for the first Twilight move, fans the flames in a recent interview, implying Stewart has finally decided to “give this a go” with Pattinson.

"After I cast him, I told Rob, Don't even think about having a romance with her. She's under 18. You will be arrested," Hardwicke told TIME in a recent article on the Twilight phenomenon. Pattinson and Stewart first met when the British actor flew to Los Angeles to test for the role of Edward Cullen- a role both Hardwicke and Stewart lobbied for him to get.

"I didn't have a camera in the hotel room. I cannot say," Hardwicke continued about their time together shooting the first installment of the franchise. "But in terms of what Kristen told me directly, it didn't happen on the first movie. Nothing crossed the line while on the first film.”

However, the chemistry was clear from the start and it seemed like a romance with Pattinson was only a matter of time.

Hardwick added, “I think it took a long time for Kristen to realize, O.K., I've got to give this a go and really try to be with this person."
