Bella's pickup gas cap stolen in Forks
17 Jan 2009
FORKS -- Somebody has pilfered the gas cap off the town's fictional heroine's pickup.
Forks Chamber of Commerce officials think it was an overly-zealous fan who pinched the chrome gas cap off Bella's pickup a few weeks ago, said Mike Gurling, Forks Visitor Center office manager.
"We are guessing some fan wanted an extra special souvenir," he said.
The pickup is on display at the center as an example of what Isabella Swan, the famed heroine of the quartet of fictional Twilight books, would have driven around Forks, where the novels are set.

Top 12 Film Industry Stories of 2008: #6 Twilight
13 Jan 2009
In the modern box office era, there are a few special landmarks that provide delimiters for the greatness of a movie's opening weekend. $30 million is good, but $50 million is great. The real lines of demarcation, however, are the $70 million and $100 million tiers. Only 34 movies have reached the former level, while only a dozen have managed the dramatic feat of the latter. Twilight didn't quite manage that $70 million level, but it's a splitting of hairs. Entering 2008, this title was completely unheralded by mainstream consumers, but it somehow managed a $69.6 million debut. That slots it neatly under all of the $70+ million debuts as the 35th largest opening of all time. What type of odds would Vegas have given you for that 12 months ago at this time?
How this happened is somewhat difficult to quantify. Certainly, the success of Stephenie Meyer's novels is the primary force. Upon the release of the final novel in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn, USA Today declared her to be "the most famous writer you've never heard of." This still may be the case for some of you, but most people who follow box office carefully are all too aware of who she is now. While Meyer herself has gone out of her away to avoid any and all comparisons to J.K. Rowling, this is the analogue she cannot avoid.

Teen vampire movie "Twilight" tops UK box office
LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Teen vampire movie "Twilight" topped the British box office over the weekend, taking 2.5 million pounds and beating animation picture "Madagascar 2" into second place, its distributor E1 Films said on Monday.
The movie, based on the bestselling novel by U.S. author Stephenie Meyer, also topped the North American box office at its opening weekend last month with ticket sales of $69.6 million, and its backers hoped the success would extend beyond the book's core U.S. following.
Independent studio Summit Entertainment is going ahead with the sequel "New Moon" based on the second novel in the four-book series.
According to E1, the British subsidiary of Entertainment One Group, "Twilight" was comfortably ahead of Madagascar 2 (1.8 million pounds) and "Four Christmases" (1.0 million pounds).
Meyer's Twilight series has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, 17 million of which have been in the United States. Her publishers are hoping the movie franchise will boost sales around the world.
